Custom paint removal
A quick and easy guide to removing acrylic paint from action figures. This method is less harmful than using acetone, which can eat away at the plastics.
You are going to need:
Methylated spirits
A jar
An old toothbrush
Pour the spirits into the jar and pop the figure in, soak for 30mins. After 30mins lightly brush with the old toothbrush to remove the paint. Rinse underwater.
Sometimes you will need several soaks, depending on the layers/thickness of paint and if varnish is used.
Any paint left will be smooth and not show when repainted due to how Methylated spirit works, breaking down the paint. Sometimes staining is left, especially on epoxy parts ( as seen in the pictures below. The areas of colour left in the last image is where the paint has stained the milliput epoxy.).
It will not remove factory paints, which gives it a bonus over acetone.
***Please note leaving head casts in for longer than a couple of hours can result in details being eaten away. I have only found this in extreme cases where I forgot about it.
The spirits will also break down superglue.
