Soft Goods Care Guide for 1:12 Scale Figures

Caring for Your Scottacus Piece: Soft Goods Maintenance

Preserve the Detail. Maintain the Craft.

Scottacus Customs soft goods are engineered to elevate your 1:12 scale figures with premium, poseable realism. From tailored cloaks to body-hugging suits, each piece is built with function and form in mind. Here’s how to keep them performing at their best.

General Care

Avoid Prolonged Sunlight

Direct sunlight can fade colours and weaken fibres. Store and display your figures away from bright windows or continuous studio lighting.

Easy Cleaning

Use a lint roller or masking tape to lift dust and fibres. Apply lightly to preserve the fabric’s integrity and the construction detail.

Wired Garment Tips

Many garments feature wire support. Some are already made with Invisawire, Scottacus Customs’ proprietary method for seamless, poseable shaping without visible topstitching. Others use traditional embedded wire construction.

To extend the life of any wired piece:

  • Avoid repeated sharp bends or forceful shaping
  • Over-flexing can snap the wire or reduce performance

Specific Notes

  • The Mando cape includes removable wires. It can be pushed out from the sides if needed.
  • The Soul Stones cape is made from a loosely woven fabric, which can occasionally allow the wire to poke through. If this occurs, gently guide the wire back into the weave.

Non-Wired Garments

Items like Jedi robes can be naturally styled with a dampening technique.

Get the fabric slightly damp, not wet, to relax the fibres. This allows for soft manipulation and more natural-looking folds.

Bodysuits

These are crafted for a clean, close fit. I have a separate post on installation instructions here.

Faux Fur

Maintain the fluffy look with a soft brush. A fine-tooth comb or even a pet hair brush works well.

Do not iron faux fur. Heat will melt or mat the fibres permanently.

Faux Leather

Faux leather is used sparingly due to durability and environmental concerns. It is typically a vinyl-coated fabric and is more prone to wear than real leather.

To extend its life:

  • Keep it out of direct sunlight
  • Avoid heat and extremely dry environments
  • These conditions can cause the vinyl to dry out, crack, or flake.

Colour Rub

Some darker fabrics can transfer dye to figures, especially where the cloth is tight against the plastic. This is most noticeable on light-coloured figures wearing dark capes or hoods.

All fabrics are prewashed to minimise this risk, but colour rub can still occur under certain conditions, much like how denim can mark light upholstery.

See our blog post on colour rub prevention and fixes here.

Display and Storage

Keep garments and figures in a cool, dust-free area. For storage:

  • Use acid-free boxes or bags
  • Avoid compression that can crush tailoring or deform wires
  • Add silica gel packets to manage moisture and prevent mould
