Custom Daimon Hellstorm

In this quick tutorial, I’ll show you how I created a custom Daimon Hellstorm Marvel Legends figure using parts from two existing figures. This is a relatively simple mod that can elevate your collection, especially if you’re a fan of the more obscure corners of the Marvel Universe.

What You’ll Need

  • Marvel Legends Daimon Hellstrom (Strange Tales wave)
  • Marvel Legends Vulcan (Bonebreaker wave)
  • Scalpel or hobby knife
  • Bowl of hot water
  • Towel
  • Gel super glue
  • Elastic bands

Step-by-Step Guide

This custom involves swapping the crotch and lower legs from Vulcan onto Daimon Hellstrom. It gives the figure better articulation and updated proportions.

Step 1: Soften the Plastic

Boil some water and soak both figures for a few minutes. This softens the plastic, making it easier and safer to work with.

Step 2: Remove the Legs

Start by popping the legs off at the hip joints. Reheat if needed.

Step 3: Split the Crotch Pieces

Next, take your scalpel and carefully cut along the side seams of the crotch piece. Twist the torso slightly out of the way to get better access.

Note: The plastic is very rigid and can break blades, so go slow. Reheat the pieces as needed. I found that rocking the blade back and forth worked better than slicing straight through.

Step 4: Prepare for a Waist Swap

Originally, I planned to do a simple leg swap and repaint the crotch red but the leg peg sizes didn’t match. So instead, we’re doing a full waist swap using Vulcan’s lower half and Daimon’s upper body.

Once you’ve separated both figures, lay out your parts. Here’s what you’ll need for the final build:

  • Daimon’s torso and arms
  • Vulcan’s crotch and legs
  • Vulcan’s belt (reheated to stretch and remove easily)

Step 5: Assemble the Custom Daimon Hellstorm

  1. Add a small amount of gel super glue to one half of the crotch piece, where the pegs used to sit.
  2. Insert the waist swivel peg into the crotch and attach the torso.
  3. Wrap elastic bands around the torso to hold it tightly while the glue sets.
  4. Occasionally rotate the waist swivel to ensure it doesn’t get glued shut.

Once it’s dry:

  • Reheat the belt and slide it up over the waist.

••Reheat the legs and pop them back into the pegs.

Final Result

You now have your very own custom Daimon Hellstorm Marvel Legends figure. This simple mod makes a big difference if you’re displaying or posing your figures. Complete the look with the Hellstorm Cape.
